Polini's 221cc aluminium cylinder is the large version of the popular 210cc cylinder. The 221'er achieves the larger displacement by using a 60mm crankshaft instead of the 57mm of the standard one.

To adapt the cylinder to the larger displacement Polini has lengthened the cylinder upwards. The head angles of the cylinder remain almost identical to those of the 210cc version and therefore all the advantages of the beefy 210cc Polinis.
An enormous torque already from the lowest revs combined with a great reliability and a very low consumption (on average around 3,5-4 litres per 100km). The aluminium cylinder, hard coated at Gilardoni in Italy, has a very wear resistant carbide coating (GiNISil). The aluminium used makes it completely insensitive to thermal stress, the Polini can be driven at full throttle on the motorway without any problems, around the clock! The cylinder head included in the kit with additional cooling fins on the underside and a combustion chamber perfectly adapted to the cylinder are also very helpful. As the cylinder runs cooler through the aluminium, the compression could be raised. This makes the Polini absolutely reliable, low consumption and wear and tear but still very powerful.

The diesel characteristics of the original engine are maintained, subjectively the driver feels driving the Polini 221 like a (virtual) PX350, so to say a TDI...

Without changes to the transmission, a top speed of 110-115km/h is possible with this cylinder and a big box exhaust.
