Determining the actual road speed of vintage scooters is more a question of faith than judgement as a reliable estimate with data provided by accurate measuring instruments was impossible, up till now. Even with the most accurate of speedometers, factors such as tyre-circumference and unreliable speedometer worm drives and cables prevent this. More modern systems, such as our SIP Speedometer/Rev-counter, enable the speed to be determined with the help of magnetic sensors. This solution however still contains the problem of variations in the tyres circumference. These also require the addition of a sensor on the steering column and a magnet to the front wheel.
