Designed for Lambretta LI, SX and TV models, this complete kit includes the stator, flywheel, CDI, regulator, wiring and fitting components required to convert your scooter to a modern electronic ignition system.

The variable ignition system provides up to 8° of automatic advance or retard, allowing the ignition timing to adjust as engine speed changes. This helps optimise ignition timing at both lower and higher RPM, providing improved engine performance and smoother running.

The variable ignition system works on the same basic principle as systems such as the SIP Vape, Casatronic and Varitronic, allowing ignition timing to change according to engine speed rather than remaining fixed throughout the rev range.

The flywheel has been designed with an approximate weight of 2.1kg, providing a balance between reliable everyday running and improved engine response.

A 9-stud centre boss has also been incorporated into the flywheel to provide additional strength.

The complete kit includes:

• Stator mounted to backing plate with wiring

• Rotor/flywheel with plastic fan

• CDI with removable HT lead

• Regulator/rectifier

• Red battery feed wire with ring and spade connectors

• Flywheel nut and washer

• Extended fitting spanner/tool

• HT cap

• Wiring loom with connectors

Installation

Basic knowledge of ignition timing and the use of a timing disc and strobe light is recommended when installing and setting up the kit.

Tools required:

• 8mm socket – fan cover bolts

• 10mm socket – stator bolts

• 17mm socket – flywheel nut

• 19mm socket – most flywheel pullers

• Torque wrench

• TDC tool – optional

• Timing disc – optional

• Timing light/strobe gun – optional

The flywheel nut should be tightened to approximately 50–55 ft/lbs.

When setting up TDC, the arrow on the flywheel does not need to point directly to 12 o'clock. The position of the arrow is not critical when establishing TDC.

Depending on the engine or barrel kit fitted, it may be necessary to slightly enlarge the elongated holes in the stator backing plate to achieve the correct ignition timing. This should not normally be required on standard or mildly tuned engines.

Important Information

This kit is intended primarily for standard and mildly tuned Lambretta engines.

The final ignition timing should be checked and set according to the engine and barrel specification being used. The variable advance/retard range may vary depending on the engine configuration.

Never run the engine without the flywheel cover fitted, as doing so can cause serious injury.

For the recommended wiring configuration, Scootopia recommend using their Simple 12V Loom.

If retaining the original 6-pole loom, the Scootopia 12V Junction Box is recommended.
