Vespa PK XL 50-125cc POLINI Digital IDM Ignition (20mm & 24mm Cone)
- flywheel ca.: 1200g
- cone 20/24mm, M10
- incl. stator plate, ignition coil, blue fan
With its IDM ignition, Polini offers an interesting alternative to the original ignition system.
The CDI-controlled high-voltage ignition with a full 90 watts of light output at 12 volts offers enormous advantages over an old, contact-controlled ignition with weak 6-volt electrics.
In addition to the greatly improved light output, the Polini IDM ignition is easily suitable for engines with a power peak far beyond 10000 rpm. But there are also tangible advantages for vehicles that already have an electronic ignition as standard.
The basic idea is a significant improvement in acceleration due to less flywheel mass. The pole wheel of the Polini IDM ignition weighs just 1.2 kg, making it over 50 % lighter than a standard fan wheel. The resulting throttle response is fantastic and acceleration in the lower gears is significantly more aggressive. This is achieved by a lightweight design in which the rotor and fan are separate components.
- Rotor weight: 1200 grams
- Dynamic ignition timing adjustment by 8°
- Complete 12V replacement ignition including voltage regulator
- More agile acceleration
- More power
- More torque
- More spontaneous throttle response
- 90Watt light output
- Reinforced fan ring
The ignition itself is based on a base plate of a 50cc automatic controller and has a frequency-dependent ignition timing control. This is dynamically designed and adjusts over the speed range in a pre-programmed ignition curve. The engine adjusts the ignition timing dynamically (i.e. with a change in speed) by 8° crank angle.
Example:
- 2,000 rpm 23° VOT
- 5,000 rpm 21° VOT
- 8,000 rpm 15° VOT
The dynamic adjustment helps the engine to achieve good torque and clean combustion, even in the lower speed range, in which any resonance exhaust that may be present does not yet have a good supporting effect. To reduce the thermal load on the engine, the ignition timing is reduced again in the upper speed range, as the engine is usually well filled here.
