Malossi has extended its cylinder range for the Vespa large-frame 125-150cc engines (Sprint, PX, Cosa, LML) with the three cylinder variants Sport 177ccm, MHR 177ccm and MHR 187ccm.
They are completely redesigned and have nothing to do with their predecessor made of grey cast iron and only 166ccm. The aluminium used as cylinder material makes the kit thermally more stable than the 166ccm cylinder and now allows a Ø63mm bore. Externally the cylinders are almost identical. All three versions use the same cylinder head and the same piston (the sport kit uses a two ring piston). The formerly patented CVF II system is no more used, Malossi now favors much bigger transfer port inlets. An adaptation to the engine housing is therefore obligatory for full power/torque.
MALOSSI 177 SPORT
The Sport cylinder is aimed at users who want to use their engine on a daily basis and therefore do not attach great importance to extreme peak performance and revs. Malossi therefore uses tame steering angles that allow the cylinder to be used early in the rev range. The large transfer surfaces as well as the small one-piece exhaust window (compared to the big double MHR exhaust port) allow a good and high torque with a sufficiently large speed range.
